Behind the scenes

Hey! This is me - I'm Hannes, a graphic designer and illustrator from Stuttgart, Germany. I'm going to show you my fab five. Of course, the best things aren't even things - but no worries, I'm not going to show you some family pictures. This is more like a wild & randomly chosen mixture of stuff that influenced me and made me the person I am today. Hope you enjoy.

Ok, do you know Werner? Werner is a really famous cartoon character in Germany. When I was a kid, he was something like my hero. Kids in America have Superman and all these dudes packed with muscles - we had Werner, a skinny biker, rocker and alcoholic who ruins everything around him. I got this autographed book from my dad in 1992 when I was 11 years old. I guess it influenced me more than he thought ;-)

The All Day Everyday Project. Tired from the daily agency routine, in 2011 I decided to start a little project - the aim was to design one poster a day for one year. But what started as a little idea quickly became the largest thing I ever did. When the year was over, I got the chance to make a book featuring every single poster I created. The feedback was huge and book won a bunch of cool design awards. Hooray!

This is my first fixie. I never knew what the hype was all about. But then I designed the logo and a few more things for my brothers bike company Barecycles - and instead of money I got this simple black beauty. A fixie is not an easy thing to ride and it needed a little time till I got used to it, since I usually drive a mountain bike with lots of gears and perfect working disc brakes. It's a completely different thing, but both ways are delivering tons of fun.

New York. It's the most interesting city I ever visited. I grew up in a small town and live on a farm right now, so, yup, it's something different. I walked miles and miles and miles through all the districts and couldn't get enough of all these crazy things happening there. And then there was Terry Richardson sitting in front of a bar - and my wife took a picture with me next to him. Awesome! Best celebrity shot ever.

This is my buddy Anton. He's with us for a few months now. Still a loud little dude. But he'll get older and maybe calm down a bit. But, whatever, he's my dude 4 life. Keep on barkin' in the free world!

Cheers,
Hannes.
