Five tips for taking beautiful pictures with your mobile phone

Nowadays we find ourselves in an age where checking our social media has become a day job and we hardly ever leave home without our mobile devices. Nevertheless, this kind of ‘social pressure’ does have its advantages. Because it means you almost always have a phone at hand to record the most amazing and unexpected moments. But how to take a beautiful photograph - and what to look out for when taking a shot at your perfect image? Here are 5 tips from us.

#1 Nice and Light!
Natural light is one of the most important ingredients in a picture. Because without good lighting; no good picture. Avoid therefore - whenever possible - to use artificial lighting and use every bit of daylight to your advantage. How? Make sure the lighting comes from the left, the right - or straight ahead - and avoid taking backlit shots. This is the first step towards good and clear photography.

#2 Depth of field
Play with your depth of field to make you images more interesting. For instance, focus on an object in the foreground and ‘blur’ the rest of the image. This can easily be done by using your finger to indicate the area that needs focus whilst taking the shot. Hold it for a moment, and your camera will actually focus on that spot. Easy!

#3 Background
Choose a different kind of background, for instance when you are taking a close-up of an object or a person. Plain colours or patterns with flowers, dots or stripes can give the photograph a playful edge. Try and use different structures like marble, wood, concrete - or even sheepskin. This could give your image the look & feel you are searching for.

#4 Surprising angle
Don’t always take a straightforward shot, but occasionally try and choose a more exciting viewpoint. Why not take the picture at an angle, from below - by getting on your knees - or from above. This is how you achieve more interesting results.

#5 Less is more!
Bright colours often make a picture more beautiful, but try not to overdo it with too many (or too extravagant) filters. It is always better to adjust the brightness and contrast of a photograph before you use a filter.
