A word from the expert: Lisette Lubbers gives the tips for your family photos

It's all in the family! You often experience the most beautiful and special moments with your family. Turn these moments into a lasting memory and take a great picture of your family members. The photoproof check!
Before you start taking pictures, it is useful to consider the following points. This not only ensures that the picture is beautiful, but that everyone also looks nice.

  1. Think of styling: it looks well-groomed when a large group of people in the same photo has thought about the use of colour and the styling of the clothing. A multitude of clothing colours or prints makes a photo look messy and busy. It is nice when the clothing is neutral, not only with groups but also with pictures of one person. This way the attention is not diverted from details like the cute eyelashes of your little one.
  2. Is everyone neat and tidy?: Also, make sure that your child’s face and nose is clean before you start taking pictures. This will save you a lot of editing time afterwards.
  3. The decor: neutral and calm backgrounds often work best for me, as the attention is then fully on your child and the background is not a distraction.

All about focus
VYou always need light for a good photo. Personally, I think daylight is the most beautiful light to photograph with. This light is often 'soft' and you don’t need a flash (which is also more pleasant for the child or baby). For example, I photograph in front of a nice window or outside when the weather is nice. Make sure that there is no harsh sunlight, because that causes hard shadows in the face and possibly closed eyes. My preference is to take photos early in the morning or at the end of the afternoon.

In addition to light, the focus point of your camera is also very important. Make sure to adjust the focus of a camera (when focusing) on the eyes of the person. You often look at the eyes first on a photo, so it is important that they are sharp. And to add some variety to your photos, it is nice to use different perspectives when photographing. Try shooting from a different angle, as this often creates a surprising effect! For example, children are lovely to photograph from above (when they look up: eyes sharp and body blurred) or alternatively from a low perspective.

Strike a pose baby
Especially for a baby photo shoot: babies are often the most happy when they are satisfied. For example, after being fed or a nice warm bath. In the first 2 to 4 weeks, babies still sleep a lot so easier during that period to take beautiful pictures of the baby without it noticing. What I also find very important is the temperature in the room where you are photographing. A baby is often more relaxed in a nice heated room than in a cool one.

My most important tip is still to do everything casually. Whether it’s a newborn shoot or a cosy family portrait: a casual atmosphere during a shoot works best for a good result. Are kids not cooperating? Then think up with something else quickly and don't get stuck with a pose that you wanted to do yourself. If you want really spontaneous photos, it’s nice to be able to let the kids race around once in a while. Children are children after all and that makes it the best challenge there is in this profession!

Is your camera already in your hand and ready to take some beautiful pictures? Give your beautiful photos a special place in your interior and design your own family collage! Prefer a stunning eye-catcher? Then choose an enlargement of your most beautiful photo and keep this special memory alive!
