The word of an expert: everything about flowers with Lisanne van de Klift

Spring! That's the time of the year when your house should have flowers. Good news: blogger Lisanne van de Klift has the tips for making the perfect flower bouquet - just right for this season. And let's be honest, flowers make just about everyone happy! In collaboration with the florist from Huis Van Bloemen in Middelburg, Lisanne posts an item about flowers every week on her blog and Instagram account. Discover Lisanne's tips and get to work in arranging your amazing flower bouquet.

Tip 1: Choose a colour theme
When arranging a new bouquet, it is wise to think about the colour. The colour of the bouquet is a determining factor. For example, you can opt for a soft pastel colours. Select flowers in pink, lilac or salmon-pink and add grey-green leaves such as eucalyptus. Flowers such as dahlia, buttercup, peony, sweet peas, lilac or stock are very suitable for bouquets in soft colours. If you want just the opposite - a bouquet with a play of colours, then look for contrasts. For example, a combination of blue delphinium (commonly known as larkspur) together with a strong tint of pink or orange gloriosa and a yellow branch of mimosa. If you opt for a mixed bouquet, it is lovely to add a green stalk of viburnum. This ties all the loose flowers together.

Tip 2: Think in trends
An important factor is not just the colour, but the style of the bouquet. Flowers are very affected by trends. Whereas for years carnations were hip and in, nowadays you will hardly see a bouquet without gerbera. When you put together a bouquet, take trends into account. Interior design and fashion trends naturally affect the choice of flowers. Take for example natural or informal bouquets that are now immensely popular. For these, select allium, dill, delphinium, agapanthus, eremurus or kniphofia and add a branch of olive leaves. Take into account that this bouquet is allowed to be somewhat cluttered. Gather the flowers nonchalantly together and keep the stems long.

The Bohemian style is also emerging and you can see that in many flower arrangements. Choose flowers in various shades of pink mixed with off-white and burgundy. A flower such as gladiola is very suitable for a Bohemian look and fluffy pink roses should also be part of this arrangement. Dried pampas grass stalks or olive branches, lilac, anemones or an exotic flower like protea also add a lot this style.

Tip 3: Choose seasonal flowers
When making a bouquet, always take the season into account. For example, flowers such as fritillaria, tulips, dahlias or sweet peas are available only for a brief part of the year. Flowers are an easy way to bring the season into your home. You create the ultimate indoors/outdoors ambience. I am wild about the first current branches, buttercups and sunflowers. And precisely now, in spring, sunflower stalks are a must have!

If you want to make a beautiful photo of the most amazing bouquet, then first choose the nicest vase. Subsequently, fill it with the flowers that you like to most. Finally, place the vase on a spot with lots of light, without any vivid light shining on the flowers. Now, you only need to take a photo and voila! You're guaranteed a beautiful photo of a cheerful composition. I have made an IXXI collage and an enlargement of many bouquets, so that I can also continue to enjoy the flowers out of season.
