Yes, it's time! It’s time for tip 2 in which we give you all the ins & outs for taking the perfect picture of yourself and others. You should have mastered the basics and you can get started right away. Did you miss the previous tip? Then read tip 1 first. Then you’ll know exactly how you actually start shooting the best summer photos. Are you completely up-to-date? Awesome! Grab your camera and be inspired by our tips and those from good humored photographer Irmy :-). She knows better than anyone how to do this best!
1. Morning and evening light do wonders for the face
If you want to create the perfect 'natural glow' on your face, then only photograph during the morning or evening hours. This prevents the sunlight that’s present during the day from shining too hard in your camera. Your photos are often overexposed and your face looks pale. That’s the last thing we want! Or even worse: "I rarely shoot during the day because you get 'panda eyes' (read: shadows under the eyes), unless there’s no other option," says Irmy. Then there are the countless filters that also make this photo a real winner!
2. Do it your selfie
Who doesn't have one on his or her smartphone: a selfie. One of you at that one crazy holiday destination, together with your bestie or with a whole group of friends. We like it! There’s only one drawback: you can always see your arm in the photo without your hand. Tip from Irmy: use a tripod and the self-timer function. It looks like someone else has taken the photo and you can make more use of the beautiful decor around it.
3. Stay sharp
For the real pros among us, this is the tip for creating beautiful portrait photos. Grab your SLR and use a bright lens. Then set your aperture to 1.8 et voilà, you’re ready to take pictures of those beautiful faces or yourself. "Or use the portrait function on your smartphone, which also works great for a holiday snapshot," says Irmy.
4. Decor: check!
You don't always have to visit a special destination to get a great photo of yourself or others. But if you happen to be planning a summer vacation, make sure you use the surroundings. That gorgeous pink wall or that palm tree shadow can add a cool twist to your photo!
5. Stay okay
The spontaneous photos are the nicest. That’s what you hear many people say, but try capturing that shot. The most important tip here is that the person you’re taking a photo of feels at ease with you. As Irmy says: "make sure that the 'camera-shy' falls away". Then that person will also pose less rigidly and you can shoot that one gorgeous picture the moment he or she is less self-conscious.
