From showing your peachy derriere (yes, you read that correctly) to posing in front of a crazy pink wall. What are the best poses for your holiday photos? We asked photogenic Esmeralda (aged 27) from the summer @es.elsewhere Instagram account to share her tips and tricks. Together with her boyfriend, Esmeralda made the step in 2016 to move from Amsterdam to sunny Curaçao! Since then her account is full of beautiful photos and we see a parade of gorgeous poses pass by. Steal the show with your holiday snapshots and quickly read what those absolute do's and don'ts are!
Fruity booty
Whether you are holding fruit in front of your eyes, balancing on your head or creating a peachy derriere: with fruit you’re guaranteed to strike a fabulous pose. And after posing with fruit and capturing your lucky shot, you can make a fresh smoothie right away. Win win! Keep in mind the tip from Esmeralda to “make sure that the ratio between you and the fruit is right. For example, if you want to keep fruit in front of your eyes as 'sunnies' or 'heart eyes', let the photographer guide you. You might feel like you could have two pineapples in front of your eyes, but in reality they’re all higgledy-piggledy in the photo ”.
A casual walk
You don't have to stand still for a great photo. As Esmeralda says “I always make sure that I either walk towards the camera or walk from left to right and let the photographer click. In my eyes, it’s immediately visible if a pose is too forced. And yes, that can sometimes mean that you hae to walk back and forth ten times before you get a photo you’re happy with. But the result is definitely worth it." So go for a nice quasinonchalant walk!
Follow me
You’re guaranteed to see this pose pass by. The romantic hand-in-hand photo. So which location do you take your photographer to? You can easily grab this shot and add it directly to your holiday album on your smartphone. Filter over it and you're done!
State what you want
In your mind you can already see what the photo will look like, but unfortunately your lovely photographer isn’t clairvoyant. Be sure to specify what you do and don’t want to see. How will the photo be cropped? Do you want to be positioned in the middle of the photo or not? Or do it Esmeralda's way: "I usually first make a photo myself so that I can show the person how I prefer the photo." That way it’s guaranteed to be a successful shot!
Subtle shadow
Trying to find sunlight for your photo sounds the most logical thing to do, but the shade of palm leaves, for example, makes your photo special. Make sure that if you look directly into the camera, the shadow falls charmingly across your face. No one wants huge shadows under their eyes.
Rise and shine!
You don't just have a beach, viewpoint or colorful wall entirely for yourself. Unfortunately, you’re not the only one who wants to capture those beautiful places. It’s a shame if you’re completely ready for your photo and another crowd of tourists starts walking through your shot. Yoo-hoo, I was here first! Avoid the frustration and head out early. You get the best of both worlds: immediately catch the most beautiful daylight and it’s also nice and quiet.
Now or never
“Just do it! It can sometimes be quite awkward taking pictures in places where there are a lot of people. You will regret it more if you don’t take the photo than if you do. And definitely on holiday, as you’ll probably never see those people again!” is the wise advice from Esmeralda.
